MetrIQs Workshop

Metrology for Quantum Technologies

Project description

On March 15th, 2027, LNE (Laboratoire national de métrologie et d’essais) along with its partners will host a workshop bringing together leading experts in the quantum field as well as key stakeholders from France, Europe, and the international community.

Seats are limited. By attending the workshop, you will be able to access the restaurant on Monday.

The session will open with an overview of the MetriQs-France programme, a pillar of the French National Quantum Strategy. Coordinated by LNE, this initiative is dedicated to the measurement, evaluation, and standardisation of quantum technologies, aiming to establish a robust quality assurance system that fosters innovation and industrial competitiveness. The discussion will highlight key R&D achievements from the BACQ project, focusing on quantum computer performance from the perspective of end users, and the MOCQUA project, which addresses the metrology and supply chain of hardware components for solid-state qubits (superconducting and spin qubits). Furthermore, participants will be introduced to the MetriQs-France metrology platform, specifically its thematic pole dedicated to the characterisation of solid-state qubits.

The perspective will then broaden to include another major national initiative – the PTB’s Quantum technology competence center (QTZ), which serves as a vital foundation for the industrial development of quantum technologies – and the European Metrology Network on Quantum Technologies (EMN-Q) under the EURAMET framework.

The second half of the workshop will focus on European industrial scalability through Qu-Test, a flagship project in which MetriQs-France participates. By leveraging a federated network of experimental platforms managed by National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) and Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) from across the EU, Qu-Test provides essential testing and validation services for quantum devices, components and systems. This section will feature two industrial use cases demonstrating the critical role of these services in bridging the gap between laboratory research and market readiness.

Finally, the workshop will address global cooperation via the NMI-Q initiative, coordinating measurement best practices across G7 countries and Australia to accelerate quantum innovation and unlock its full potential. The session will conclude with a strategic analysis of standardisation efforts within CEN-CENELEC JTC22 and IEC/ISO JTC3, aligned with the Quantum Europe Strategy and the European Quantum Act. To close, a representative from the European Commission will provide concluding remarks and a foresight outlook on the future of quantum technology in Europe.
